It was not without a tinge of regret that I learnt about that T R Subramanium’s passing away. TRS, as the music world knew him was a combination of a musician, musicologist, teacher, music enthusiast, champion of upcoming musicians and above all an impartial listener.

He was articulate, spoke neatly and lucidly be it in English or Tamil. In that sense he was a worthy spokesperson of Indian music expressing what he had to intelligibly and with a liberal dose of humor. Sometwenty-five years ago I heard him at the Shanmukhananda hall in Mumbai. I was stuck by his intelligent approach to music.
