Hailed as perhaps the greatest mridangam vidwans of all time by artists and music lovers alike, Palghat Mani Iyer belongs to a rare breed of musicians whose intermittent pauses were as musical and enjoyable as his playing. On the occasion of the upcoming centenary celebrations this month, I wish to share a few witty anecdotes involving my grandfather, who was generally perceived to be staid.
