Kottakkal Ranjith Varier is gradually making a place for himself as a competent Carnatic vocalist. Ranjith began his concert in Thrissur with a varnam in raga Kanada, set to Ada tala, composed by Ramnad Srinivasa Iyengar. ‘Vidulaku Broketa’ was the next composition. Set to raga Mayamalava Gowla and Adi tala, the song is his worship of the deities – Lakshmi, Saraswati, Parvati, and so on. It is Tyagaraja’s obeisance to those well-versed in music. He says they alone know the secret of eternal bliss. Ranjith punctuated his rendition with an impressive manodharma segment.
