This is a review contributed by – Mr.Krishnaswamy & Mrs.Sulochana Krishnaswamy, whose daughter Shobana won the tickets of a contest on the’s Facebook page.

Sampradhaya – the music concert organised by GA Trust, at Narada Gana Sabha was novel for the combination- the two doyens of music- Padmashri Aruna Sairam and the young musician Shankar Mahadevan, who set the stage on fire right from the beginning. It was raining music all over and its still ringing in our ears!! The show featured two artists with remarkable mass appeal — Aruna Sairam and Shankar Mahadevan . The unique voice of Aruna Sairam ji and the booming voice of Shankar Mahadevan could scale very high notes.

Aruna and medleys are synonymous. Here too, she conceived a heady mix of classical, semi-classical, light and folksy numbers from different parts of India. After the duo sought the blessings of Lord Ganesa with the Ragamalika ‘Vakrathunda Mahakaya‘, Shankar’s ‘Thodaya Mangalam’ came as a big surprise and ended with ‘Sabapathikku Vaeru Deivam‘. All the songs were offered jointly and in alternating modes. A well rehearsed presentation, the proof came in the vibrant ‘Bhaghyatha Lakshmi Baramma” and its cascading sangatis rendered by both in perfect unison. The Vittal Bhajan immersed us in Bhakti and was presented with gusto by the duo to the accompaniments of the harmonium, tabla, flute and guitar. Aruna’s ‘Maadu Meikkum Kanna‘ was shared by the singers as doting Yashoda and the mischievous Krishna. The most fascinating aspect of this programme was its dynamic diversity all through; well, Aruna and Shankar simply rocked!

We thank Margazhi for having given us this loving opportunity to soak ourselves in this divine music !!
