A full-fledged harmonium concert is a rare occurrence. The instrument is looked at with some suspicion as its gamut, admittedly, is limited. The same swaras deployed in various ragas with their characteristic structure and subtle variations, cannot be captured on these reeds fully. The intonation colour variations are conspicuous by its absence. For this reason, All India Radio had excluded this instrument in 1940. The ban, however, was lifted in 1980.
