The Mumbai-based National Centre for Performing Arts’ (NCPA) Centre for the Promotion of Arts and Culture Trust (CPAC) is bringing together the crème-de-la-crème of Indian classical dancers in the fourth edition of its Nakshatra Dance Festival. The repertoire includes a slew of stellar performances of Mohiniattam, Kathakali, Bharatanatyam as well as Odissi, Kuchipudi and Kathak. The festival opened on October 11th with a Mohiniattam and Kathakali face-off with the age-old and ever popular tale of “Bhasmasura Mohini” by Mandakini Trivedi and Kalamandalam Piyal. On October 13, renowned Odissi exponent Madhavi Mudgal will showcase a performance in two parts: a solo presentation of traditional techniques of the dance form and a group show of her vision of the constant renewal of Odissi. The festival will conclude on October 14 with a Bharatanatyam recital by the internationally acclaimed dancer Alarmel Valli.
