Love for dance: Michelle Sequeira

An intense love and devotion for Dance and particularly Bharatanatyam brings Michelle Sequeira from Belgium to Chennai – veritably the ‘Mecca’ for Indian performings arts.

Born in 1989 in Kinshasa (Democratic Republic of Congo), Michelle whose parents are of Indian origin, moved to Kenya and subsequently to Bangalore before finally settling down in Belgium. Michelle became interested in Indian dance at a very young age after attending various dance performances with her parents.

Beginning with dance lessons in 1996, Michelle often travelled every week to attend dance lessons with Kalpana Raghuraman in Netherlands. Since her Arangetram in 2006, Michelle has participated in several performances not only in Belgium but also in Luxembourg, the Netherlands and France. Recently, under the guidance of her guru, she has taken part in a number of contemporary dance projects as well. Michelle is now in India to perform here in the birthplace of Bharatanatyam for the very first time.

Excited about this opportunity to perform in Chennai for the first time, Michelle says: “I am looking forward to this experience. Although I have performed at many other locations, it feels really special to be able to dance in front of an audience of true connoisseurs!”

Michelle will be performing under the aegis of The Brahma Gana Sabha Dance Festival in collaboration with Sathir Dance Art (Chennai) on January 3rd, 2012 at 4.30 p.m.

Venue: Smt. Sivagami Pethachi Auditorium, 179 Luz Church Road, Chennai 600004
