It was Malladi Brothers’ dynamic concert at the Kapali Temple music festival. There was such unrestrained tempo-drive that alapanas and kirtanas had an excess of it, diluting access to sukham. Along with their fertile manodharma, the exposition carried with it punch and roughness. The raga sancharas were intense in depth exuding robust confidence bordering on assertive singing with very little attention paid to tonal finesse. The performance was a testament to their sound training in classicism that they created a remarkable impression. They saw to it that each phrase in an alapana and sangati in a song served the above purpose.
